Description

Bird Sexing From Blood

Bird DNA testing (sexing) can help determine the gender of the birds with 100% accuracy - whether your bird is male or female. Just4Birds offers DNA sex identification from a small blood sample for over 2000 different species of birds. Blood samples are collected in one of our stores from the end of a toenail.

Avian Borna Virus ELISA

We offer ELISA testing for Avian Borna Virus (ABV). ABV is believed to be the primary agent for Proventricular Dilitation Disease (PDD). Bornavirus is the causative agent of Borna disease. Borna disease virus (BDV) is a negative-stranded neurotropic RNA virus. A neurotropic virus is a virus which can infect nerve cells or which does so preferentially. A few commonly known neurotropic viruses are Rabies, Herpes virus, Poliovirus, and Japanese Encephalitis.

Combination of DNA Bird Sexing + 3 Infectious Diseases

We offer a combination of DNA testing and infectious disease testing. The following 3 diseases are tested:

  • Chlamydia Psitacia
  • Avian Polyoma Virus
  • Psittacine Beak and Feather Disease (PBFD)

Early detection and quarantine of infectious diseases helps prevent the devastating effects that a bacterial, fungal, parasitic or viral outbreak can cause. At risk are aviaries, nurseries, pet-shops, bird shows, quarantine stations, brokers, zoos, medical facilities and bird hospitals. In addition, people working at or visiting these places can transmit the infectious agents to other locations.
